While grooming is often associated with sexual abuse, it can be as simple as filling an emotional need. For example, a boss grooming a direct report to fill a narcissistic need for superiority.

Grooming is the behaviour used by a bully to ascertain whether a possible target will be susceptible to a campaign of workplace bullying. Grooming occurs during the period before a campaign commences. It may occur just once, or over a number of interactions.

Flattery and Favoritism: The groomer might excessively praise or favor the targeted individual to create a sense of obligation and loyalty. Manipulation: Groomers may use subtle manipulation tactics, such as guilt-tripping, gaslighting, or emotional blackmail, to control the victim.

Grooming is when someone builds a relationship, trust and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them. Children and young people who are groomed can be sexually abused, exploited or trafficked. Anybody can be a groomer, no matter their age, gender or race.
